University of Maryland Conference on China Explores Complex Relationship With US

What:

The University of Maryland Center for Public Policy and Private Enterprise (School of Public Policy) is hosting "Partnering for the 21st Century" - an international conference on economics, politics and security of China and the US.

Background:

The United States is the world's largest economy, and by many measures has the most capable military forces. After 30 years of rapid economic development, China has become the world's second largest economy; at the same time, its military power is rapidly increasing. As a result, their internal conditions, as well as their relationships will have a significant influence on the global state-of-affairs for the remainder of the 21st century.

The conference is designed to bring academics, researchers and practitioners to exchange and explore various aspects of the two nation's complex bilateral relationship. The issues that will be addressed include economic, geopolitical, defense industries, and resources. The goal is to strengthen the collaboration between the University of Maryland and the National University of Defense Technology within the fields of economics, public policy, political science, and national security to achieve world-class academic research, leading towards a greater understanding of this complex bi-polar relationship.

The conference is sponsored by the Center for Public Policy and Private Enterprise at the University of Maryland's School of Public Policy, China's National University of Defense Technology and the University of California San Diego's Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation.
