Mighty Sound of Maryland Wins CBS' Marching Band Mania

College Park, Md. -- The University of Maryland's Mighty Sound of Maryland Marching Band took the top prize of $25,000 in CBS Television Network's "Hawaii Five-O Marching Band Mania." More than 40 college bands participated in the competition, which required bands to upload a video of their performance of the iconic Hawaii Five-0 theme song to a CBS Web site.

Maryland's video submission included the band's half-time performance during the Terps football game against the United States Naval Academy in September. The band finished their performance of the theme song by spelling out "Book em, Danno."

According to Richmond Sparks, Maryland's director of bands, the money will be used for new uniforms. Votes for best performance by the general public determined the winner. In addition to their cash prize, the Mighty Sound of Maryland had their video broadcast during the October 11th episode of CBS' new TV show Hawaii Five-O.
